Water guided laser processing technology

Water guided laser cutting is a hybrid processing method that combines waterjet and laser, similar to laser propagation in optical fibers, with a stable water column like a hair as the medium for laser transmission, thus achieving cutting. This unique processing method produces cutting seams parallel to the cutting surface, which not only ensures precise machining accuracy, but also ensures rapid cooling and timely cleaning of the machining area. This technology has been widely applied in multiple high-precision application fields, including metal hard materials and semiconductor processing. In fact, medical equipment such as surgical knives and needles, automotive fuel nozzles and spark plugs, single crystal and polycrystalline diamonds, PCD cutting tools and other manufacturers have also begun to use this technology and achieved good results.

What are the advantages of water guided laser processing?

1) Water jet is a cylindrical structure that can make the transmitted laser output in parallel, so the cutting surface is highly parallel and does not produce taper;

2) The processing depth depends on the length of the water flow, which can exceed 10 cm and does not require expensive focusing optical systems;

3) Water guided laser reduces the thermal damage to materials caused by traditional laser processing and improves the uniformity of cutting edges;

4) Due to the presence of water on the machined surface, it effectively prevents the molten material from adhering to the machined surface after laser ablation, reducing the roughness of the machined surface.

5) In traditional laser processing, sparks often damage the protective lens, while water guided laser processing does not have this problem.
